This is almost what I want. I want the image to change to the filtered option when I click the filter in the sidebar, not when I choose the filter under the product.
This screenshot is with the sidebar filter Neutral enabled, it should show the first swatch:

Unfortunately, the feature is not currently available.

Change thumbnail to chosen variation when filtering in shop

I am wondering if there is a function where the filter in the shop changes the thumbnail of the product to the image that is added to the different variations.
Please see the screenshots for a visual representation of what I am looking for.
