create a color/pattern as 1 variation

one of my products has as color: black, grey and grey stripped and sizes xs, s, m

i cannot add grey stripped as a color as this is a pattern for which i have to upload a photo

however now with product i am facing a problem as i basically want a “pattern” i.e. grey stripped to appear next to colors

how can i solve this problem? how should i create my variations so that all colors show together even if one is a “pattern” and all sizes together?

i understand that one solution would be to change the “type” in colors as “image” so that i can also upload images of patterns but then i would have to upload images for all colors.. and would i lose any variations in terms of colors i have already created in the products or not?
