plugin has no impact on site

Hi Guys
I have followed the video on how to set this up for adding a cross on the out of stock items, however it seems no matter what i select there is no impact on the site. i installed the free version a few days ago and the crosses came up immediately without doing anything i since uninstalled the plugin and have reinstalled but now nothing has any impact on the site itself, i have cleared all caches of course.
what i need is for the out of stock she sizes swatches to show a red cross through them but still be clickable as i have a ’email me when in stock’ facility.
i also need the archive products to show the out of stack banner.
