Images for Global Attribute Terms not being carried over into Generated Variation Images

Susan Dempsey

Hello!

We have a global attribute of Fabrics, which contains all of our fabric swatches and corresponding images.

We noticed a major issue, where, when we generate all product variations for the fabrics attribute, the corresponding images that belong to each fabric swatch aren’t carried over. We have 40+ fabric options, and these fabric options need to be added to 15 different products, so it’s too much for us to go through and assign an image to each individual fabric variation.

Is there an option to have the fabric variation image carry over when generating variations. Or do you have a plugin that supports that feature?

Any help is much appreciated!

I see. The main thing we want is for the main product image to switch over to the variation image when a swatch is selected.

Does each variation need to have a variation image assigned in order for that feature to work? Or is there a way to display the swatch image when it is selected, without having a variation image assigned?

Hi Susan,

Or is there a way to display the swatch image when it is selected, without having a variation image assigned?

Unfortunately, this is not possible with our plugin at this moment.

If you have more questions or confusion, please let us know.

Thank you

I appreciate the response!

I just spoke with our PHP developer and (hopefully I understood her correctly) she wants to know if there is a function or hook she could use to extract attribute term images for a specific category, and then programmatically assign that image to the corresponding product variation.

She says she can figure out the assignment part, but just needs to know if there’s a function to get the attribute term images by category name?

Thanks!

Hi Susan,

Unfortunately, there is no hook for this.

We have support for WooCommerce Rest API.

You can retrieve the images from image attributes using the API.

Hopefully, you will find this helpful.

Thank You

Hi Golam,

I just forwarded your response to our PHP developer and she says that’s exactly what she’s looking for.

Thanks for the help!
