Occasionally cannot add a variant to cart when using the image swatch feature

Hello,
Occasionally customers cannot add a variant to cart when using the image swatch feature. When this happens, all variants for that product are blocked (the user gets a pop-up saying there’s no stock when there is either plenty of stock or the ability to backorder).
For customers, this is not browser specific, however, I’ve only experienced the problem on Firefox.
