out of stock variations still showing up as available

Larry Cline

I run a small farmers market, with the fees the vendors pay for their spaces going to fund local charities. We let them make reservations online at our website (www.MidlandMarket.org) with each product variation being a different market space.

Last week (after a previous plugin crashed spectacularly) I purchased the Pro version of “Variation Swatches for WooCommerce” plugin. It seemed like we had this working Thursday night, but when I ran test purchases with one of my vendors on Friday morning, she still was not always seeing the blue X on spaces that had been reserved; some of them, but not all. Nor were those spaces disabled, still showing “In Stock” when she selects them. Usually she would be unable to proceed with checkout on one of those, but in one case we were BOTH able to buy the same space (one in backstock, evidently.)

Even when I log out and then go back in as a buyer, I see the spaces correctly, but I don’t know if that’s something in my cache keeping it right or not, but she was seeing the display incorrectly.

I have gone back and forth through the plugin, and rechecked every setting. This seems to be a problem with the “Disable Out of Stock item” check under the “Advanced” tab on the plugin.

On “Edit Product > Swatches Settings” where it asks “Allow backorders?”, I have also selected “Do not allow” but somehow it allowed a backorder to go through anyway.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Larry,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

I ran test purchases with one of my vendors on Friday morning

Can you please share how many variations with the product?

Could you record me reproducing your issue using a tool like this? https://www.useloom.com
It helps me to quickly figure out the issue.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you

Larry Cline

Sorry, I replied to the email, but I guess you didn’t get it.

Most of the time, we have 38 spaces that can be reserved (the rest are non-reservable spaces.)  Three times a year we have larger markets in which we have all 106 spaces by reservation only, so I guess that would be the maximum number of variations.

Here’s a link to a video our site developer made about the problem:

Hi Larry,

Thanks for giving me the screencast. This is the way WooCommerce variable product works.

You want them like reservation, once someone purchases it then that variation will not be available for others.

In that case, you have to set the Quantity 1 for that specific variation. Please check this screenshot: https://paste.pics/P5R8F

Or,

Try a reservation plugin for WooCommerce.

Thanks

Larry Cline

Yes, we know they need to be set to 1 for quantity, so that they’ll be out-of-stock after purchase.  Unfortunately, your plugin was allowing them to continue being purchased as “backorders” even though I had specifically deselected that option.

None of the reservation plugins we looked at let the customer specify which variation they want and remove it from stock.

YOUR plugin is supposed to make the out-of-stock variations unavailable for selection (through blurring and an X through the swatch) after someone else has purchased that variation.  Since that is not working, THAT’s what we were asking you about.

Hi Larry,

Can you please disable our plugin and check still it can be ordered or not?

Our plugin just converts the default dropdown to swatches.

We have no connection with the backorder or anything else.

We don’t deal with the order process.

Thank You
