Updating swatch images for manual attribute variations via API

Plugin: Variation Swatches for WooCommerce
I would like to buy this plugin but have some questions.
I understand I will need the pro version to use swatch images for manual attributes. But can you please confirm if it’s possible to update the variation swatch image or pathname for manual attributes via API? Do the images need to be in a particular folder or the media library?
