Colour Swatches not showing – unless I manually save in each product

Alan Gunning

I have globally generated attributes, and after setting the colours for each attribute and changing the attribute from ‘select’ to ‘color’ – it still wasn’t showing in the front end.

I’ve disabled all plugins and still the same.  I then went into one of the products and manually saved the swatches setting (it was already showing as ‘global’) and after this it worked….

So it’s working for that one product:

I presume this should be automatic for all products that have those attributes?

This is one that has the same attribute: (it just shows the attribute name and not the color)

so is there a way to force this on all?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

I have checked your mentioned product link and noticed some issues.

If you keep the default select option from variation swatches then the attribute color should come from the global color – https://prnt.sc/WzklTZs1DpQF

But the colors are not showing because you need to add each color from the global attribute, you have many missing colors – https://prnt.sc/BHPS3Nm-lAil

Now, if you set the color type manually for each product from the swatches settings then you must click save swatches as you did define the custom color manually for each product – https://prnt.sc/Pm8Mj1VCeCAy

So you have to click the save swatches button manually. There has no automatic system – https://prnt.sc/bkD_SUgSB1XL

and here is the screen recording for better understanding – https://www.loom.com/share/1ddbb31849ad481e94cda0a1f8ebf84c

Thank you.

Thanks – those products are all using ‘stone’ attribute – there’s only 6 choices and all have colours associated.  I was trying to get this working before I embark on teh ‘color’ attribute (as there are lots of colours).  Would that interfere with ‘stone colour’ attribute?

And they are set to default but aren’t showing… (unless i manually go though one at a time and hit ‘save swatches settings’.  This can’t be right surely as there are so many i’d need to go through and save manually.

the above product on the front end… not working

Hi there,

I have checked your mentioned product, it’s caching issue as you are using multiple caching plugins and it’s not recommended – https://prnt.sc/HfWotraE2kmL

After clearing both caches as well as clicking the save swatches button, the color swatches are showing properly on your last-mentioned product link – https://www.houseofhenderson.co.uk/product/celtic-matt-sgian-dubh-choice-of-stone/

Before checking this product please do a hard reload and clear your all caches.

Thank you.

Alan Gunning

I don’t think it’s a cacheing issue – the gridbuilder cache is for facet caching specific for WP Gridbuilder. Anyway, I’ve disabled both caches and it’s not working for the others… *unless I manually go thorugh them one at a time and save the setting.

etc etc

(there’s over 1500 products so to do this manually isn’t an option)

Hi Golam

that didn’t fix it either.  What I did to fix it was to change the string of the attribute, save and then change it back.  The save looks to have refreshed it and now all the Gem Stone Colour options are showing.   cheers

Hi Alan,

I am glad that you were able to improvise this.

Is there anything else we can do for you?

Thank You
