Swatch size change without reduction in image quality

Good afternoon.
I need assistance with understanding how we can increase the variation swatches on our product pages without decreasing the image quality of the swatches as we would like to make the swatches quite large.
I know how to change the size, i just need to understand how to retain image quality.
