Magnifying glass on swatch image

I’d like to have a magnifying glass visible on the variation images so that if the user clicks it, they get a popup with a much larger image. The 200 x 200 maximum is not sufficient since the user is selecting fabrics and needs to have a large, detailed view, preferably with additional information. Is this possible?
